The Des Moines Area Medical Education Consortium consists of four Des Moines medical teaching institutions affiliated with the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. These four
Des Moines institutions serve as the Des Moines Branch Campus clinical training site for UICCOM medical students as a LCME-recognized regional medical campus of UICCOM.
The Executive Director of the Consortium serves as Assistant Dean directing operations at the Des Moines Branch Campus located in Des Moines, IA, and reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education on the UICCOM main campus in Iowa City, IA. The Assistant Dean provides strategic leadership for the branch campus, manages the Consortium staff and finances, leads strategic planning initiatives, and provides direction for branch campus educational programs, appointment of faculty, and faculty development. The Assistant Dean works with a Board of Directors that includes representatives from each of the Des Moines institutions and UICCOM which oversees the branch campus and approves a yearly budget.
The Assistant Dean position is a full-time appointment with an adjunct clinical faculty appointment within the appropriate UICCOM department and rank appropriate of the applicant. Qualifications
Terminal Degree: MD or DO degree, Significant Medical Education Experience: At least five years of administrative experience in medical education such as Clerkship Director, Program Director, DME, DIO, Assistant or Associate Dean; Evidence of administrative success in previous leadership positions; evidence of scholarship in medical education and the clinical environment; Demonstrated ability to manage educational organizations; Experience and skill in program development, curriculum development, teaching, evaluation, faculty development, and meeting accreditation standards; Effective written and oral communication skills; and an understanding of the personal and organizational commitment of a service-orientated educational consortium.
