The North Carolina Board of Nursing is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position is employed by and reports directly to the Board. The CEO is responsible for leading development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan and advising the Board on regulatory matters. The CEO oversees operations of the organization and effectively manages fiscal and human resources. Acts as treasurer and spokesperson of the organization and as administrator of the Nurse Licensure Compact and trustee of the organization’s governmental 401k plan. 

Essential Functions: The CEO provides leadership in development and implementation of the Board’s strategic plan and communicates mission/vision of the organization; serves as expert on nursing regulation and represents Board as official spokesperson; assures that funds, legal records, physical assets and other property and management controls are properly instituted and safeguarded; establishes organizational structure to accomplish the operational aspects of the Board; develops and maintains a productive working relationship between the Board/staff and individuals, organizations, agencies concerned with nursing education/practice/regulation; maintains effective working relationship with legislative members, committees, Rules Review Commission, State Auditor, Governor's Office, relevant governmental agencies and other stakeholders aligned with the purpose and mission of the organization; engages Board in development of priorities; apprises Board of progress and/or problems; promotes environment of collective and individual achievement for Board members and supports members in their governance role; represents the Board at meetings, conferences, etc.; supervisory responsibilities including recruiting and selecting staff, communication, delegation, developing and providing feedback to direct reports, promoting teamwork, fiscal accountability and the consistent administration of organizational policies and quality improvement. 

Qualifications The following credentials and experiences are required for the position: 

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Doctorate (preferred) 
  • Current unencumbered registered nursing license 
  • Knowledge or prior experience in regulation (preferred) 
  • Minimum seven years’ experience: 
  • organizational management, planning, budgeting and financial administration 
  • nursing practice/education/administration in positions of increasing responsibility and authority 
  • public speaking and presentations 

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full time position based in Raleigh, NC and travel required.
