Campus Safety Officer
Randolph-Macon College is seeking a full-time (night shift) non-sworn Campus Safety Officer to be a part of our Campus Safety team. The Campus Safety Officer serves and protects the community and property of the college, responds to and documents reports of incidents, requests for service, represents the college as a first responder and works through the dispatch communication center.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: promoting positive community relations in the performance of his or her job duties; patrolling the campus on foot, bicycle, or vehicle, while responding to incidents and conducting security checks of building and property; and working at the dispatch communication desk on a rotating schedule while on duty answering the college switchboard, operating and monitoring all college security/notification systems.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, strong computer knowledge and aptitude skills are required. Previous work experience in a collegiate environment preferred. This position requires Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Training and Certification within 180 days and is provided by the College. A driver’s license and the ability to pass a background investigation are required.
The position requires extensive walking, stair climbing, physical activities and sitting for periods of time while at the dispatch communication desk. Candidate must have the ability to: communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; read, learn, understand, explain, and communicate effectively through various forms of communication as in two-way radio, email, telephone, and in groups; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and attention to detail is paramount.
NIGHT SHIFT SCHEDULE:
Shifts are based on a two-week repeating cycle with scheduled workdays as follows:
Week 1 = Wed. and Thurs. 8PM – 8AM
Week 2 = Mon., Tues., Fri., Sat., Sun. 8PM – 8AM
Successful candidates must be flexible and willing to work extra shifts and special events as needed. The Campus Safety Officer is regarded as essential personnel and attendance is expected during inclement weather and other emergency conditions.
