DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Job Description
Job Title: Development Director
Supervisor: Executive Director
Office Location: Driggs, Idaho
Salary: $55,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising Program Development: Collaborate with the Executive Director, Development Team, and Board of Directors to develop a fundraising program and capabilities to meet TRLTs mission and goals. Oversee all aspects of TRLTs Development Program including annual giving, planned giving, membership, major gifts, capital campaigns, grants, and fundraising events. Work with ED to develop strategies and goals to increase community awareness and overall fundraising capacity. Work in partnership with the ED and Outreach Coordinator to implement community engagement activities (events, website, newsletter, social media) and develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy to increase overall support of the organization. Report on progress throughout the year at staff and board meetings. Supervise development staff providing training opportunities, professional development, and performance evaluations.
Major Gifts Program: Expand major gifts program and manage recognition programs for major and legacy gifts. Secure gifts from individuals and businesses through direct, in-person solicitations, letters and proposals. Work with ED, board, and staff to develop and expand team-based fundraising. Develop strategies and goals to increase fundraising effectiveness to include: identifying and contacting potential individual and major donors; setting up meetings and outings for major donor prospects; overseeing specific major donor events; maintaining relationships and correspondence with individual and major donors; increasing gifts and gift frequency; and maintaining confidential records for all donors. Ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgment and reporting of all gifts through various recognition methods including thank you letters and telephone calls. Expand planned giving program providing donors with a variety of options including bequests, gifts of securities, real estate, and tangible personal property. Institute a recognition program for legacy donors.
Capital Campaign: Manage capital campaign(s) for operations endowment, dedicated stewardship fund, and an opportunity fund. Through this effort, provide fundraising mentoring to the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers. In partnership with the ED, help the Board of Directors and staff perform and expand its role in fundraising, particularly with major donors.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advisory Council: Coordinate Advisory Council meetings across our service area to develop non-Board member ambassadors across our service area to further the TRLT mission.
Grants: Oversee grants program, including foundation and government grants and restricted contributions. Coordinate with full team to maintain current grantor relationships and establish new grant sources including family and corporate foundations and government agencies. Research and cultivate board and trustee affiliations with funders and prospects. Collaborate with team to produce inquiries and proposals. Work closely with the Operations Manager to track grants and ensure timely submission of reports and announcement of awards.
Standards and Practices: Ensure that all fundraising materials are accurate and compelling. Work with team to ensure Board members, Trustees, staff, and volunteers have proper fundraising materials, training and direction to fulfill their fundraising obligations and assumed responsibilities. Work collaboratively with team to develop and manage all events. Work together with team on the development and distribution of print and web-based publications. Build out TRLTs promotional messaging and ensure its use. Ensure all donor records are complete, accurate and fully utilized.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong commitment to, and knowledge of working and natural landscapes.
Ability to work independently while being a productive member of a team that values furthering TRLTs mission in a supportive and fun environment.
Demonstrated experience and success in major gifts solicitations.
Bachelors degree in applicable field; advanced degree a plus. Considerable prior experience and training may be substituted, if applicable.
Minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit fundraising & development.
Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills.
Proven experience producing results and meeting program goals.
Outstanding time management and organizational skills, excellent written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to juggle a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously.
Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Valid drivers license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High-energy, forward-thinking, creative individual with high ethical standards.
Experience running or participating in capital campaigns.
Experience with donor management software, particularly Salesforce.
Experience working with institutional grantors such as foundations and trusts.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Approximately 80% indoor office work and 20% meeting with donors offsite. Office work is primarily sitting at a desk with a computer or in meetings. Most travel is within TRLTs service area with occasional travel within the region and beyond for meetings, conferences, and trainings.
Some weekend and evening work is required.
Donor cultivation activities may include outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, fishing, and other activities.
