Antitrust Attorney
Antitrust Attorney The Tax, Financial Services, and Antitrust Division of the Office of the Utah Attorney General has an immediate opening for an attorney in its Antitrust Section. The attorney will primarily practice antitrust law, and may also handle civil cases in related areas, including enforcement of Utah's data breach statutes. These are typically complex cases that involve extensive discovery and motion practice, and require familiarity with federal and state procedural rules. The attorney will work with the other attorneys and support staff in the Antitrust Section, the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, other federal agencies, assistant attorneys general from other states, private counsel, and financial experts. The job requires occasional travel. This position is for an attorney with experience in the practice of antitrust law and complex litigation (e.g. MDL practice). Five to ten years of legal practice is preferred, though the position may be filled with a less experienced attorney. While trial experience is desirable, it is not required. Preference will be given to an applicant with formal education (e.g. masters, major, or minor) in economics or accounting, or completion of recognized training in data security and management (e.g. CIPP certification). The position is a career service position upon completion of a minimum one year probationary period. Salaries are commensurate with experience in conjunction with the career service matrix. All new hires must be members in good standing of the Utah Bar as of the hire date, or must (A) be members in good standing of another state bar as of the hire date, (B) gain admission to the Utah Bar during the probationary period, and (C) receive pre-hiring approval by the Attorney General. All new hires must be admitted to practice before at least one federal district court. A security background check is completed as a condition of employment.
A resume, a writing sample (preferably a full document such as a legal brief that is approximately 10-20 pages long) and a cover letter must be uploaded to your profile as part of the application. The cover letter should highlight any particularly relevant experience or education (such as a background in economics or accounting) and should explain why the applicant wants to practice antitrust law. The deadline for applying is November 7, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. No phone calls please. The Attorney General's Office is an equal opportunity employer.
